Call & Response

a photographic dialogue

Month: August, 2014

Brand

The Response: Our Favorite Brand of Chocolate — Jessica We spent the day at the sweetest place on Earth and just got back home around 11:30. So this will have to do!

Brand

The Call: Searching for the Answers — Cheryl I don’t know how to brand myself as a photographer. I’m certainly not a wedding photographer and have no desire to be one. I did one senior pictures session and learned a lot, but I don’t think it’s something I’d want to specialize in. At this point […]

Storm

The Response: Purple Boots —Cheryl Skies were sunny today. We’re expecting rain tomorrow. Figures. These are Stella’s winter boots, the boots she should be wearing in the snow. You’re more likely to find them on her feet on a warm, sunny day in August.

Storm

The Call: Winter Storm Clouds — Jessica Nature did cooperate a bit with the call today. It was dark and gloomy all afternoon long and when the wind began to pick up I thought I might get really lucky. Unfortunately though, we only managed a light drizzle despite all the signs. And even though it […]

Dwell

The Response: Peaceful Sleep — Jessica I’m not sure what it is but I’ve always loved to take pictures of the children when they sleep. Maybe it’s because it’s the only time they are still. But I think the pull comes from something deeper. When they sleep, it somehow becomes more obvious that they dwell […]

Dwell

The Call: Youth — Cheryl I dwell in Possibility A fairer house than Prose, More numerous of windows, Superior of doors. Of chambers, as the cedars — Impregnable of eye; And for an everlasting roof The gables of the sky. Of visitors — the fairest — For occupation — this — The spreading wide my […]

Doubt

The Response: Rising to Heaven When in doubt, pray. (Thank you for the reminder, Anchoress.)

Doubt

The Call: Waving Underwater — Jessica I had my doubts (and fears) that the waterproof bag would work. But I took the plunge (or rather my phone did) and tried it anyway. The phone was unharmed but the experiment was kind of a flop. Mostly because the screen was impossible to see, not only because […]

Air

The Response: Building an Arsenal — Jessica …because in the summertime, water balloons are so much more fun than “air” balloons. (That’s wasn’t too much of a stretch, was it? We didn’t make it to the pool so I couldn’t get the shot that I thought of yesterday. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!)

Air

The Call: Hygrometer — Cheryl It was a beautiful, sunny day — not too hot, not too cool, just about right. Then, something in the air changed. The sun was still shining, and the temperature didn’t seem much higher, but a rise in humidity made the air oppressive.

Today

The Response: Wrap it Up — Cheryl Bridget turned sixteen today. (She’s always been sweet.)

Today

The Call: Today we went shopping — Jessica Catherine’s new lenses came in yesterday so today we went to the mall to get them put into her frames. That meant we had about an hour to wander through the mall. Since Catherine was blind without her glasses we eventually found our way to Starbucks and […]
