I love the color of this shot — but I think it may be a little flat. You know? Maybe even, dare I say it, boring? Well not so much for me because I know the back story of all the items, but from the standpoint of a viewer with out that background it probably falls a little flat.
It’s much harder to put together a composition that I realized. The main problem with this one, as I see it, is that there are no vectors to lead the eye around. I tried several different combination with the drumsticks but couldn’t get one to work right. It would also be better in a landscape framing. But that’s what I had today.
We are, as always, are harshest critics. And I promised myself at the outset of the 365 that I would not let perfection be the enemy of the good. So there you have it. My shot and still life for today.
Tomorrow can only be an improvement! : )
Jessica, you are right about perfection. I’ve made a conscious effort as of late to battle my perfectionist tendencies. They are just too paralyzing.
You are a harsh critic, but that’s ok. It’s your photo. I like it and think it works quite well. The colored stuff at the bottom is very cheerful and works wonderfully with all the blue. The blurriness imparted by the Lensbaby leads the eye directly to the black-and-white center. From there, my eye travels the perimeter: from colorful stuff (what is that?) to the truck to Superman to “Reptiles Rule”. The drumsticks get a little lost, but that is my only negative comment.
