Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. – Imogen Cunningham
Or, my favorite is the one that I thought was a mistake until I took a closer look at it.
Today’s tulip image was one of those accidents. I was doing double exposures with a set of tulips and an open book. You can see the final result here.
But as soon as I set my camera to do the double exposure, I promptly forgot and took two shots of the tulips right after each other. So I double exposed the same subject, in the same location. Well, not quite the same location. That’s where the magic happened.
Since I was holding the camera there is a slight difference in position. It created a “ghosting” effect that was super enhanced by the low aperture lensbaby. A quick black and white conversion (lightening the yellows by a lot) created one heck of a ghostly looking bouquet of tulips.
