Since I’ve been making quarterly goals (all of two quarters in a row!), I’ve had “print more pictures” as one of those goals. One of the highest priority ones at that. Last quarter I managed to print off one.
I’m not sure why it is so hard. I can’t use budget as a an excuse — Groupon and Living Social are full of deals on photo prints. I can’t use time or convenience as an excuse — I manage to upload plenty of shots to IG, flickr, G+ and here. And for goodness sakes the photos show up in my mailbox so I don’t even have to drive to the corner store!
That’s a big part of the reason I was so happy to have “print photos” as an assignment for Kim Klassen’s BeStill 52. I used Artifact Uprising this time to print off twenty-five of my favorite recent Instagram shots. Since they were black and white I decided to make the whole picture black and white. I used a rogue grid to put one of my favorites in the “spotlight.”
Why Artifact Uprising? Well, I don’t know, except that a twitter link sent me over there and then I liked the website, I liked the fact that they were made in the USA, I liked the heavy recycled paper they were printed on (almost like watercolor paper which creates a lovely texture on the black and white IG photos!). And then when I opened up the box and saw the first note saying “With Gratitude,” well…I was touched! It may be marketing but it’s nice, like the Chick-fil-A workers that say “My pleasure.” A little politeness goes a long way in this world.
I’m the same way when it comes to [not] printing photos! Thank you for this lovely reminder. I’ve had the Artifact Uprising app on my phone for months and months. Now I must go give them a try!
With gratitude,
J.
I, too, was grateful for the prompt because I don’t know what to do with printed photos. They end up as clutter. I will look at that site.
Yep! and Lord knows I’ve got enough clutter around here. I usually try to print big so I can hang it on the wall…I still have boxes of prints from back in the film days so just because we make prints doesn’t mean that they will end up being displayed. ; )
lovely prints…had not heard of Artifact Uprising…I will have to give them a look…
It looks like these turned out beautifully, Jessica!
Just visited Artifact Uprising.
I would definitely give them a try.
I have no excuse not to print out photos either but I am in the same boat….I think it may be partly because there Is so much choice these days….in images, in print companies and products, and it just becomes overwhelming to make decisions.
That’s a good point. I think I’m also overwhelmed by all the photos I have — how do I make sure I’m printing the right ones (from the right place at the right size). Yeah, it’s a bit overwhelming! : )
