Last Friday brought a lovely cool breeze and low humidity. Knowing that it wouldn’t last, I grabbed the kids and headed out to Great Falls park along the Potomac River. We took a leisurely stroll (the only way possible with a 2 year old and 4 year old in tow) along the banks of the river and found many interesting things.
Finding shells and rocks on the sandy bank
Lots of kayakers were also taking advantage of the lovely day
The bright sun made lots of interesting shadow patterns on the forest floor. I thought this one was particularly interesting since it looks like a palm leaf — which would be very out of character here in Virginia.
Not everyone had a great day. We stumbled across this broken pole and tangle of fishing line.
The way that the light shines through the tall trees can really create a sense of magic and beauty: of peace and tranquility. It’s hard to describe, you know?
And, lest you go thinking all was peaceful and beautiful, I thought I would share this shot from the end of the hike. The seven year old was relating some act of extreme injustice perpetrated upon him by the sixteen year old and was letting everyone know all about the unfairness of it all…
Enjoy your week! : )
What a wonderful way to spend the day, and I absolutely love the photograph of the fishing pole.
