I’ve always liked the idea of using Instagram and my iphone as a kind of sketchpad for ideas and concepts that I would later develop with my “real” camera. Nice idea but in reality what’s put up on IG stays on IG and there doesn’t really seem to be any cross-pollination type thing going on.
But with this longer term still life project maybe I’ll finally use it that way. Yesterday, I spent some time gathering items to create a more complex still life arrangement. And by gathering, I mean mostly going around my house but I did some actual shopping too — and came home with gorgeous peonies and a lovely vase and bowl.
Time spent shopping meant there was no time left for dealing with the “real” camera. Out came the cell phone and after a bit of arranging and primping, I sorta got what I was after. Or at the very least a rough sketch.
I’m very hopeful that Monday, I’ll be able to turn out something more along the lines of these incredible inspiration pieces. Wish me luck!
